Sea Fairey : Record Breaking Passage of French Canals
Sea Fairey made a record breaking five day transit of the French canals between Sete and Bordeaux in June 1961. She was under the command of delivery skipper Geoff Scott who was taking her from Nice to Salcombe. He made a deal with the crew of Ganga Devi whereby he would tow her, whilst her crew worked the 153 locks on the route, mostly manually operated at that time. Both parties were in a hurry, Geoff to complete the delivery and Ganga Devi's crew because they were out of the time agreed with their employer, to complete an epic voyage between Hong Kong and the UK.
Unfortunately I know little else about Sea Fairey, and so am on the lookout for more about her.
