| | Elephtéria : French Puzzle
An email from Chris, who recently bought an Alan Buchanan designed boat, posed an interesting puzzle; He knew the year of her build, the builder and that she was to Buchanan's Viking design. She arrived in France in 1999. Chris bought her as Alexander, renamed her Elephtéria, but was curious about her earlier history. Of the known Buchanan boats, a search threw up Swedenorer as the prime suspect, a suspicion confirmed when Chris then found a Lloyd's Registration number on one of Elephtéria's beams. This immediately lead to the names of three previous owners. I decided to pursue one of these; AR Edwards seems to have first owned the 8 ton Hillyard Gannet for one year only, in 1973. He then sold her to buy the 9 ton Fair Rover, a Peter Brett design built in 1953. Two years on, he switched again, this time to Swedenorer (i.e. Elephtéria).
