Dione : Rebuild Brought To A Success Conclusion
After 35 years on land, and a three year rebuild byBill McLaren & Tim Henderson, Dione was relaunched amidst great fanfare in July 2017. She is the pride of the sixteen boat fleet of Gareloch One Designs (GODs) all of which were built between 1924 and 1928 and, remarkably, all of which are still in existence in and around the Gare Loch, north-east of Skye.
Dione's three year rebuild is detailed on the Gareloch One Design website. An informative summary was published in The Helensburgh Advertiser in August 2017, linked to below. Another of these small and delightful racing boats, Iris, is already on this website. I hope to visit Gare Loch, summer 2018 in Tramontana. Seeing one of the GOD boats 'in the flesh' is high on the list of things I'd like to do.
