Zante's Swiss Owner Gets In Touch
Hans Baumann has sent in a terrific photograph of his Harrison Butler designed yacht, Zante, under way with her sail number, Z27, clearly visible. He's the proud new owner. That he has made contact is particularly pleasing as it confirms a rumour that Zante still existed.
Zante's Racing Days
That rumour came from the HBA's membership secretary and yacht racing enthusiast, Robert Griffiths, who spotted a request for a JCH racing certificate for Zante, in 2018, the first news of the boat since 1999. Robert's detective work revealed some then recent photographs of Zante, reproduced below.
Jim Broad's Zante
A previous owner of Zante was Jim Broad. When he died in 1999, it was fondly recalled that he sailed Zante single-handed (mostly) and that when not in commission, Zante's engine was lodged under his kitchen table - his long suffering wife, never once complaining !
