Vashti : Cutting Edge Design in 1958
Vashti was built for Sir Maurice Laing at the same time as his company was building the M1 Motorway. Vashti was an immediate 'game changer' winning the EAORA (East Anglian Offshore Racing Association) Championship thrice, from 1958 to 1960. Such success boosted Alan Buchanan's standing as a designer and, indeed, several sister ships were built as a result such as, for example, Lady of Hamford. Sir Maurice Laing went on to commissioned a larger Buchanan designed boat, Hephzibah, launched in 1965. Vashti continues to be enthusiastically raced, most recently in the 2017 Suffolk Yacht Harbour's Classic Regatta on the East Coast.
