Shiraz : Enthusiastically Raced
Shiraz was up for sale with the Devonshire based yacht brokerage Wooden Ships in 2012. They described her as “a development to Alan Buchanan's famous and successful race yacht Vashti but easier to handle by a small crew”. Unsurprisingly, given that she was in good condition, Shiraz was snapped up by a German buyer, with Wooden Ships being given the job of delivering her to Germany.
Originally she was called Vae Victis. When Timothy Bevan bought her in 1966 he brought the name Zeenar from his previous boat, a 4 ton GRP Van de Stadt. It was the third owner who changed the name to Shiraz in 1970.
