Saltwind found in Northern Spanish port
Miguel Dominguez has been in touch to say that he is the owner of Saltwind*, a Harrison Butler Z4 that the Association last heard of in 1973. Her home port is Santander, a major commercial shipping complex on Spain's northern coast. Miguel has also sent recent photographs that show Saltwind* in excellent condition. Saltwind* had a pink star * attached to indicate she was feared lost. Without hesitation this is awarded to Miguel Dominguez.
The Lloyd's Registers have yielded a pleasing amount of early owner history up until 1973 with Miguel's wife, Consuelo, adding further detail. She also told me that it was D Rocca and Elizabeth that sailed Saltwind* from Britain to Santander. Miguel and Consuelo have enjoyed sailing Saltwind* in Santander Bay for many years but now feel it's time to put her up For Sale. She has been brought ashore and the hull and mast painted. The Cost of Boating in 1963
Jon Craven, who had a share in Saltwind* in the early 1960s recently wrote, “My annual salary in 1963 was £550, the annual upkeep of Saltwind, £700. In spite of a partnership with Simon and Sarah, we could not afford it. After 3 years we sold up”.
