The Artist's Work, Itself the Subject of a Painting
This oil painting of Charm under sail was exhibited in Sydney, 2011. This beautiful boat, built in 1921, has survived through to the modern day thanks to a loving restoration by Russell Read, her owner between 2000 and 2005. The design used is an enlargement of the 29ft Venture, a vessel built in 1911 which has also recently undergone a major restoration.
HBA Honorary Member, Dick Wynn, was Charm's custodian between 2006 and 2012, when he reluctantly sold her, his other commitments not leaving enough time to properly enjoy boat ownership. Dick is editor of Lodestar books which in recent years has published books on both Harrison Butler's and Albert Strange's designs.
Dick sold Charm to Robert Westling who very kindly invited seven Albert Strange enthusiasts, myself included, aboard for a weekend afloat, late August 2016. A gallery of photographs from this joyful event is to be found on my Tramontana website.
