Anna Ellidi : For Sale, January 2020
I had the pleasure of meeting Anna Ellidi and her crew when they called in at Conwy marina, my home port, May 2018. Skipper 'Trash' (Cole David Manson) was mulling over where to go next, a circumnavigation of Ireland being given carefull consideration. The photograph, above, is a frame from a 2 minute video I took as Anna Ellidi headed out to sea.
Although widely regarded as a Nobby, Anna Ellidi was built as a fast (for her day) yacht rather than a boat intended to fish in Morecambe Bay for prawns. Her hull was modified with this in mind. Nick Miller in his book, The Lancashire Nobby, writes, "She is rather full in the bow, with a very long counter, implying a long run. The counter has been shortened; unfortunately there is no known documentation or photographs to show how the counter was originally finished off. Her bow profile is cut away, with a chin to the front of the ballast keel, a yacht profile with the beginnings of a fin keel". I must add, however, that whilst she's may not be a purist's Nobby, she is certainly a graceful and beautiful boat.
Originally called Ellidi, the change of name occurred after 1980. She's currently (January 2020) up For Sale with the Wooden Ships brokerage.
Other Nobby and Nobby related boats on this website include Ploughboy, Peggy, Harbringer, May, Juanita, Ziska, Naiad and Ethel.
